Every picture tells the story of care.
The story of the Caribbean Medical Mission of New Jersey is an ongoing tale, as this group continues to bring medical care and supplies to needy people throughout the Caribbean.
This past summer, 32 medical professionals traveled to Jamaica, bringing with them their medical expertise and much-needed supplies. Treatment was provided in the fields of Ophthalmology, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Nephrology, Pediatrics, Gynecology, and Dentistry.
During this weeklong trip, the caregivers provided treatment and medications to 2,300 adults and children.
Diagnostic testing was part of the services offered. Dr. Scott and his team screened patients for eye diseases, including glaucoma. Those affected with this disease were provided with a year’s worth of medication. The team also dispensed over 700 pairs of eyeglasses.
The team this year included four dentists, two of whom specialized in pediatric dentistry. Over 200 dental procedures were performed by our dentists.
The CMM of NJ formed a long-term relationship with Fair Prospect Health Center in Portland. One of the goals of this partnership is to fill the gaps in needed medication and help with the supply shortage. They were also able to provide the local physicians with clinical tools to help them become better and more efficient technicians.
Along with the medical care provided, the volunteers also made a significant contribution to the area’s Cancer Center. A check for $400,000 Jamaican dollars (the equivalent of $4K US dollars) was donated by the group. These funds helped sponsor 100 women who at risk for breast cancer.
This story continues as the group works toward raising funds for their next trip to Belize in the summer of 2017. You can help support their efforts by visiting their website Caribbean Medical Mission of NJ.
